Why We Use the Words “Kimono” and “Kaftan”
At Holland Street, our designs are inspired by global textile traditions. We use the terms “kimono” and “kaftan” to describe the silhouettes that influence our work, while fully acknowledging their origins in Japan, North Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia.
Our pieces are contemporary interpretations — not replicas — created through a printed‑textile design approach focused on pattern, drape and craftsmanship. Our intention is appreciation, not appropriation.
We honour the cultures behind these iconic garments and are committed to designing with respect and transparency.

It feels soft and luxurious, is very lovingly made in an original printed silk fabric. What an original and special treat of a present! I love it! ❤️
