Day 21. Spring Florals?!

Florals? For Spring? … Groundbreaking!
Amanda Priestly’s infamous line from the cult fashion film The Devil Wears Prada never fails to make me laugh — but it also leaves me with a twinge of guilt. The truth is, I adore flowers, and I’ve been designing floral prints since the very beginning of my creative career.
When I teach my degree students, I often remind them that basing a collection on flowers is a wonderful starting point, but the challenge lies in making it innovative and personal. How do you take something so familiar and transform it into something new? That’s the question I ask myself every time I sit down to create.
Recently, while flicking through Business of Fashion, I was delighted to see an article exploring this enduring trend. As they put it: “Printed dresses may not be groundbreaking, but they are a moneymaker. Here’s how labels have really capitalised on the category.” It’s a reminder that while florals may be a recurring theme, they continue to resonate with audiences and drive sales season after season.

For me, florals are more than just a trend — they’re a canvas for storytelling. Each print can capture mood, memory, and emotion, whether it’s a delicate botanical sketch or a bold, oversized bloom. And while Amanda Priestly may roll her eyes, I believe the challenge of reinventing florals is what keeps them exciting.
I’ve gathered some images of recent floral prints from groundbreaking designers whose work I admire. Their creativity proves that even the most familiar motifs can be reimagined in ways that feel fresh, modern, and inspiring.
