Holland Street’s Sakura Collection pays homage to the visionary Japanese graphic designer Ikko Tanaka (1930–2002), whose bold, minimalist compositions continue to shape contemporary design. Inspired by Tanaka’s striking visual language, founder Lauren Barfoot brings her distinctive hand-drawn aesthetic to life through confident pen-and-ink motifs and innovative paper cut-outs.
For this collection, Lauren experimented with crisp, clean silhouettes formed by delicately hand-cut shapes. Curves and dotted accents echo the decorative nuances found in floral forms, adding character and texture to the compositions. These organic elements—roses, geraniums, peonies—are carefully arranged on large-format canvases, then digitally developed using advanced CAD techniques to introduce vibrant, tonal colour palettes.
Every design is meticulously engineered to work in harmony with garment shapes, ensuring seamless flow across panels and seams. The result is a collection that feels bespoke and sculptural—crafted from luxurious silk, with an emphasis on elegance, femininity, and refined craftsmanship.
Informed by sustainable principles, the collection embraces low-waste practices and thoughtful use of scale. Each piece stands as a tribute to both artistic innovation and timeless design.
Original paper cut artworks and the Sakura lookbook are included as part of the collection’s visual narrative.
