Elle Decoration- A Silk Tribute to Japanese Graphic Elegance
Share
Inspired by the bold visual language of Ikko Tanaka, one of Japan’s most influential 20th-century graphic designers, the Sakura Collection by Holland Street is a celebration of colour, form, and cultural fusion. Designed by Lauren Barfoot, a graduate of the Royal College of Art, this British-made collection of luxury printed silk kimonos brings together the principles of modernist design with the poetic beauty of ukiyo-e, the traditional Japanese woodblock print style.
Barfoot explains, “As a designer, it’s impossible to look at Tanaka’s work and not be influenced by his use of colour, shape, and simplicity. He created a style of graphic design that playfully fused the principles of modernism with the Japanese pictorial tradition of ukiyo-e.” That influence is clearly visible in the Sakura Collection’s intricate floral motifs, rendered in a palette of soft pastels and vibrant hues, each kimono a wearable canvas of artistic expression.
Handmade in London, the Sakura Collection is part of Holland Street’s broader offering of printed silk kaftans, kimonos, and luxury interior linens, all crafted with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to sustainable British production. These pieces are designed not just for resortwear, but for elevated lounging, exclusive gifting, and interior elegance.
Whether worn at home or on holiday, the Sakura kimonos offer a refined yet playful take on traditional silhouettes—perfect for those who appreciate fashion with depth, story, and soul.
